Born in England, Ieuan Dolby started his working career at sea in 1984. Sailing with some famous shipping companies like The Bank Line, Bibbys, Fred Olsens and Blue Funnel he was made redundant numerous times as the British Shipping Industry faced disaster. Companies either went bankrupt or turned to other industry to make ends meet but Ieuan persevered and in short order rose from Cadet to Chief Engineer on near European Coastal voyages and on the Papuan New Guinea Fly River at the young age of 24yrs with Carisbrooke Shipping Ltd and Western Tug and Barge Pty Ltd.

Later on he attended the prestigious University of Newcastle Upon Tyne and was awarded an Honours Degree in Maritime Technology. He then worked as a Volunteer for the Volunteer Service in London and was posted to the Tuvalu Maritime School in the South Pacific as the Chief Marine Engineer before returning to sea.

He has been involved in the Maritime Industry for over thirty years, the last ten sea-years on Anchor Handlers and Seismic Vessels for Tidewater Marine and Swire Pacific Offshore before moving ashore as a Technical Superintendent with Carisbrooke Shipping in 2007.

Now living in Edinburgh, Scotland with his wife and two sons he will continue to be involved with the sea for many years to come and in-between work he will write as much as he can about the life, places and clutures seen and the people whose paths he crosses.
