Of seas and lands afar the Seafarer has a wandering heart and a stout pair of walking shoes! From those first precarious steps up the gangway to a fully-fledged career at sea the sailor builds with an open eye a life that bears little resemblance to any other.
Often misunderstood by those ashore, often too wise for ones own good and mostly ready for all the unexpected hurdles that life erects, a hurriedly packed bag is never far from the side!
Life is good, the air is clean and the spirit constant but a tiny sense of imbalance, a yearning for normality is never far from the surface. But this ache is easily suppressed, dampened down with the knowledge that life on the high seas is rich and full and that starting a new life ashore would rapidly breed great discontent and a lower income.
Whether a captain or deck-swab be: the Seafarer is the 'jack of all trades', the gossip of the street and the one whose words are heeded!
"A ship is my home; land is merely a place to water"
